Product Description

Solid oak flooring is supplied either unfinished or pre-finished. Unfinished solid oak flooring is plain oak that is sanded but not covered with anything. Unfinished oak flooring tends to cost a little less than pre-finished oak because it goes through fewer processes to be produced, but does require a light sanding by hand after installation before being treated with the owners choice of finish.

Unfinished oak flooring should always be sealed like this immediately after installation. After finishing you will need to wait for the finish/sealant to dry, and sometimes additional coats may be required. With unfinished oak, the main advantage is that you can colour and seal it to your exact specification which allows you to match it up with any colour.

Pre-finished oak floors are sanded and covered with an oil or lacquer within the factory it was produced. Unlike its unfinished counterpart you can walk on it almost immediately after installation without any extra work.

Both of these finishes are perfectly suitable to your home; it just depends what types of needs you have. If you have a specific look in mind then going for unfinished solid oak flooring may well be your best bet. Otherwise pre-finished will still create a beautiful look for your home and will cut out the leg work.
