Once broken, glass shards will be firmly bonded to the PVB interlayer instead of scattering or falling off, greatly reducing the risk of cuts from sharp fragments. It meets basic safety codes for indoor railings and low-level skylights, delivering a much higher safety rating than single-pane tempered glass.
As the thinnest widely adopted PVB interlayer, 0.38mm PVB cuts down raw material cost. Its procurement and processing expenses are far lower than options with 0.76mm, 1.14mm or 1.52mm PVB. It is ideal for bulk projects with constrained budgets and moderate requirements for impact resistance & sound insulation, such as standard indoor partitions and small daylight windows.
The thin PVB interlayer causes minimal visible light loss, with light transmittance nearly equal to two standalone 6mm clear glass panes. The glass maintains high clarity for daylighting, free of the slight haze or dull tint common with thicker interlayers, perfectly suited for spaces prioritizing natural light intake.
The PVB interlayer blocks around 99% of ultraviolet radiation, protecting indoor furniture and soft furnishings from UV-induced fading and aging.
It improves sound insulation by 5–8 dB compared with single 6mm glass, attenuating casual indoor conversation and mild outdoor noise, though its performance on mid-low frequency noise is limited.
Its slim overall thickness supports standard tempering, edge polishing, hole drilling and hot bending, leading to shorter production lead time. Lower self-weight also imposes less load bearing demand on aluminum window frames and steel support structures, compatible with most conventional window systems.
Moderate impact resistance: The thin interlayer has weak puncture resistance; heavy impacts can easily penetrate the glass. It is not recommended for street-facing floor windows, pool fencing, high-rise exterior windows or balcony railings — use laminates with ≥0.76mm PVB for these scenarios.
Limited acoustic performance: It offers poor suppression against mid-low frequency noise like road traffic, so it is unsuitable for street-side bedrooms or home cinemas.
Average humidity resistance: Long-term exposure to humid outdoor conditions (e.g. pool surroundings) raises the risk of edge delamination and bubbling; choose SGP interlayer for high-moisture exterior applications.
Poor anti-theft performance: It can be punctured easily with hand tools, so it cannot serve as security glazing.
