China Building Standard Design and Research Institute

Founded in 1956, China Institute of Building Standard Design & Research (hereinafter referred to as “CBS”) is a subsidiary of China Construction Technology Consulting (CCTC) and owns qualifications in multiple fields.
As a national high-tech enterprise, CBS takes the three basic businesses of standards, design and research as its core., and has developed six business clusters, namely green and low-carbon leadership, driven by standard policies, innovative technology support, leading major projects, main body of livelihood engineering, and protection engineering support. It also focuses on fourteen key development areas, including: standardization field of engineering construction, prefabricated construction field, the field of building isolation and vibration reduction, civil air defense and underground space field, residential and residential areas, accessible facilities field, elderly care construction field, green and low-carbon fields, urban renewal field, rural revitalization field, integrated development field, health care and medical architecture, education architecture field, and the field of digitization and intelligence. We uphold the corporate spirit of “high standards to all”, live up to the mission of “Promote technological progress and lead industrial upgrading”, make a commitment to assist local governments and enterprises in pursuing green and coordinated development as an integrated service provider of innovative technologies in the urban and rural construction field, and strive to realize the aim of becoming a “preeminent centennial enterprise”.
In the field of standardization, CBS takes promoting the advancement of common technologies in the industry as the main goal and provides comprehensive consulting services concerning standards, specifications, atlases, evaluation, certification, inspection and testing, technical inspection service, all with the aim of promoting the technological progress of the construction industry. We have edited 10 international standards, formulated more than 300 national and industry standards, and organized the formulation of more than 2,500 national construction standard designs, which are applied to 90% of the construction projects in China; we have also completed more than 500,000 testing and certification projects; we are the Chinese technical counterpart of the ISO committees TC59, TC59/SC2, SC13, SC14, SC15, SC16, SC17, SC18, SC19, SC20, TC162 and TC10/SC8, the secretariat of the TC59/SC20, China Branch of buildingSMART.; Several experts from our institute serve as conveners of TC59/WG4, TC10/SC8/WG18, and TC59/SC17/AHG3.
In the field of architectural design, with value creation from design + management as our core service concept and by leveraging the special technical advantages in the fourteen key development areas, we provide devising, planning, design, whole-process consulting and EPC services that cover the whole industry chain and the whole life cycle. We have completed a total of 3,000 design and consulting projects.
In the field of research industry, with the transformation of the technical systems and products of scientific and technological achievements as our main direction, we build business cooperation in the sales and application services of low-carbon technologies, prefabrication technologies, isolation and vibration reduction, civil air defense gates, prefabricated interior components, urban public digital service infrastructure, and standard digitalization.
Currently, CBS owns scientific research and innovation platforms, such as the National Technical Standard Innovation Base, the National Assembly Construction Industry Base, the Academician Workstation, the Post-Doctoral Research Center, and undertakes the work of 29 society and association secretariats. It has more than 1,400 employees, including one resident academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and three national engineering survey and design masters. Professionals and technicians account for nearly 85% of its total workforce. CBS has 16 branches, 7 subsidiaries, 26 scientific and technological innovation platforms.
