Beats Arhichitets

Beats Architects, founded in Shanghai by Gao Yicheng and Zang Tong, derives its name from "Beats," signifying a struggle and collision with contemporary architecture. Focusing on Chinese architectural design with an international perspective, Beats interprets contemporary Chinese architectural aesthetics and local context from a unique angle, striving to combine modern Western aesthetics with Eastern philosophy to create modern architectural works uniquely Chinese.

Principal architect Gao Yicheng previously worked at MAD Architects and Kengo Kuma & Associates, and has extensive experience in public building design, including projects such as the Yiwu Grand Theatre, Jiaxing Civic Center, Haikou Yundong Library, and the Kengo Kuma Beijing Architecture Exhibition. Principal designer Zang Tong graduated from the Glasgow School of Art and previously worked at Kengo Kuma & Associates, participating in the design of projects such as the Hangzhou Chaoyin Zen Temple and Chengdu Xinhua Academy, and possesses rich experience in interior design. During its time as an independent firm, Beats Architects participated in various international design competitions and achieved considerable success, including first place in the Baghdad National Exhibition Hall competition, an award of excellence in the Italian Pine Forest Hotel competition, a finalist in the Shandong Museum competition, and awards of excellence for the entrance to the Chengdu Tianhuiyuan National Botanical Garden and the Shandong Ocean Cultural Tourism Homestay.
