“Those who prevail are the ones to balance work and life the best. Interior design should always be people-oriented. Interior design is just like the law of energy conservation in physics to balance sizes, height, and temperature.”
Designer Xu Qingping
Shanghai-based and active designer Xu Qingping has provided interior design for projects like restaurants, hotels, villas, real estate sale centers, and mock-up rooms.

Q: What is your principle for design?
People often say you are what you write. I think it also applies to interior design. Design works greatly reflect a designer’s thoughts and attitudes towards design. A good designer will showcase his or her ability in some details like color choices, scale, the texture of the materials, and space composition.

Q: What is your special way to approach clients after years in interior design?
Take home improvement projects as an example, a designer will have to learn about the client and his family’s habits (both life and work) and their special requirements (both functional and mental). A designer who wants to finish a good design will have to, in some way, understand the clients better than themselves. Besides, this designer will have to earn clients’ respect by showing solid design skills and perfecting every detail.
