Project Background
THE NATURAL A COOL ABUDHABI MUICIPLA LANDSACPE DESIGN
Due to the Urban Heat Island Effect, the city center of Abu Dhabi is estimated to be several degrees Celsius warmer than the surrounding natural environment.
Solar absorption and re-radiation from the surrounding context, including swaths of asphalt parking, existing surface materials, the heat released by automobiles as well as the anthropogenic heat released by cooling the buildings and lack of air movement result in felt temperatures being much higher than the prevalent air temperatures.
Floor Plan
The Master Plan
The concept behind the project is to create an oasis, a place in a desert (in this case the city) in which there exists cool waters and shade; a little piece of open land that stands out from the city.
In this oasis, the system is sustainable using only what nature provides; and whatever is emitted is recycled, sun, water, wind and earth creating a zone with no heat emission yet absorbs the heat
around it leading to an overall reduction of temperatures in the zone.
Project Aerial View
The sun; used to power the cooling system adopted and maintain the landscape
The wind; facilitates `the cooling
tates the cooling system adopted.
The rain; provides mechanisms for cooling surfaces and the air.
The earth; absorbs what the other elements have not absorbed.
These elements working hand in hand will lead to a thriving oasis where users can find rest and
where the rest of the city can draw cool air from.
Renderings (Except Aerial View)
Covered walkway acts as a physical link between the spaces, also it is in-cooperated with solar panels and a rainwater harvesting system, hereby assuming a dual function
