Project Background
Located at Sunshine Hotel Upper Hill in Kericho, Kenya, this project involved the interior redesign of VIP Suite 415 to create a refined, contemporary hospitality experience. The design concept combines warmth, elegance and functionality through carefully selected finishes, layered lighting, bespoke furniture and detailed joinery. The client required an upgraded luxury suite with a distinctive bedroom, comfortable lounge, functional work areas and a premium bathroom, while maintaining efficient.
Project Concept
The suite concept combines contemporary luxury with warm, nature-inspired detailing. The bedroom and lounge are visually connected while remaining distinct functional zones, using sculptural illuminated features, warm timber accents, soft neutral finishes and layered lighting. Large openings preserve natural light and views, creating an elegant, comfortable and cohesive hospitality interior.
Project Highlights
A key project highlight was the development of a fully coordinated bedroom ceiling and lighting system. The bespoke suspended bulkhead integrates concealed LED cove lighting, recessed downlights and a feature chandelier to create layered ambient lighting. Detailed plans, sections, construction build-up, dimensions and material specifications were developed to translate the design concept accurately into execution.
Spatial Composition
The spatial composition uses differentiated ceiling treatments to define the lounge, dining, bedroom, wardrobe, bathroom and circulation zones while maintaining an open and cohesive suite. Layered floating ceilings, timber elements and integrated lighting reinforce the hierarchy of spaces, guide movement and create distinct atmospheres without relying on excessive physical partitions.
Materials & Processing Technology
The dining ceiling uses a suspended gypsum-board bulkhead system supported on metal furring channels and suspension rods. A perimeter recess accommodates concealed LED strip lighting, while recessed downlights and an adjustable feature chandelier are coordinated within the ceiling. Detailed sections define the build-up, suspension, shadow gaps, dimensions and finish requirements for accurate site fabrication and installation.
