Project Background
Casa Retiro in Tanay, Rizal, is a biomorphic-inspired facility for the elderly grounded in Walter Gropius’ philosophy of design as a necessity for civilized life. The project prioritizes Safety, Support, Cognition, and Well-being by utilizing nature-inspired forms and tropical minimalism to eliminate institutional stigma. This approach ensures a therapeutic environment where simple design and abundant greenery foster independence and emotional peace for residents.
Floor Plan
The architectural layout focuses on a single-story campus that maximizes accessibility and seamless horizontal circulation for senior citizens. The Floor Plan features a centralized core with specialized wings for residential and medical zones, while the Elevations showcase a low-profile, tropical-responsive design with wide hip roofs. This strategy optimizes passive cooling and maintains a human scale, ensuring a safe and non-intimidating environment.
Interior Renderings
The interior renderings emphasize a warm, therapeutic atmosphere through neutral tones, natural wood textures, and ergonomic furniture across communal and private spaces. Social hubs like the Dining Hall and Play Room are designed for high sensory engagement and social interaction, while private Residential Rooms focus on comfort and garden views. Every detail is meticulously planned to support the pillars of emotional well-being and dignity for every resident.
