Project Background
The design is organised as a series of stepped volumes that respond to the sloping site. A robust, dark-coloured lower storey forms a substantial plinth, visually anchoring the building to the terrain. Above this, lighter rendered wall surfaces reduce the perceived mass of the upper levels, while the prominent roof structure establishes a distinctive architectural identity.
Scheme Design
The upper floor is characterised by a generous glazed pavilion enclosed by floor-to-ceiling glazing. This transparent volume maximises panoramic views of the surrounding mountains while allowing abundant natural daylight to penetrate deep into the interior. The exposed steel structure, expressed through inclined columns and deep roof beams, reinforces the industrial aesthetic while providing rhythm and visual depth to the facade.
Renderings
A lightweight mono-pitched roof projects beyond the building envelope to create generous overhangs, offering solar protection appropriate for the harsh Namibian climate. The elevated roof also promotes natural ventilation and gives the building a light, floating appearance despite its considerable scale.
This building presents a contemporary industrial architectural language that is carefully adapted to its rugged desert setting. The composition is defined by strong horizontal lines, contrasting solid and transparent elements, and a restrained material palette that allows the surrounding landscape to remain the dominant visual feature.
